I like both of these ideas! Thank you for bringing them to me—I've been kind of weighing our options re: the explosions of apps, and I think the limiting to one character per cycle is a good way to slowly bottleneck it down to being a little bit slower.

I'm worried about closing apps for a cycle in case it results in a larger burst of apps instead, but it's not 100% out of the question! We kind of want to see what the turn out is on this upcoming cycle because it will only be open for the one week (instead of two) and get a good feel for what action we should take after that. When we do, we'll be throwing up an OOC poll and get an idea of how everyone feels about our application cycle options!
