Available Jobs
This section is currently defunct until the world situation stabilizes. There is no Initaitive to work for in the same way; characters are encouraged to find employment as they will and handwave earnings as appropriate to the current setting. This page is for anyone who would like to better envision how their character spends their days! The Initiative pays well for work done for them, on top of the payment Transports already receive for a living wage. The more complex the job, the more it will pay. Characters will be paid monthly, and exact amounts can be assumed and handwaved.
To get your character a job, just comment to this entry in the appropriate place for it. There's no need to wait for mod permission. We may occasionally notify players if any upcoming plot would involve their career of choice, but otherwise all necessary information can be found on this page. Or here, in case of historical research jobs. If you have any further job-related questions, they may be asked here.
INITIATIVE SCIENTIST/RESEARCHER
Science Stuff
This is the most open, broadly defined job. Basically, if your character is science-minded, they can find a job here.
Researching timelines for missions
This includes looking into accurate clothing for the holodevices, researching historical events, languages, customs, etc, as well as pinpointing which events need to be changed to best benefit the present day. These characters will work very closely with Initiative NPCs already familiar with the process.
Mechanical upkeep of machines/networks
This includes development of new technologies, along with programmers and most engineers.
INITIATIVE ADMINISTRATION/RECORD KEEPING
Historian
Exactly what it sounds like, these characters scour the libraries for non-transcribed events to copy into the databases, as well as compare contrasting historical reports to determine the most likely truth, etc. It’s the findings of these people that the Initiative bases their missions on.
Mission Transcriptions/Record of results
These are the people that look over historical records after a mission has been completed, and see what changed. Historical records do change upon completion of a mission, and the only people who remember the way it used to be are those who were along on the mission.
INITIATIVE/TRANSPORT RELATIONS
Greeting new arrivals
What it says on the tin. Prior to the first of the month, people working in this function will set up the Hold and Courtyard in preparation for the Transport arrivals. They’re also charged with greeting new Transports, distributing tablets, issuing maps, answering questions, and generally being the friendly, informed face new Transports first encounter in Exsilium.
Relaying information
This is anything from information about an upcoming mission, to crisis reporting, to alerting Transports to upcoming changes. Basically, any information that the Initiative needs to get out to the Transports will come through these people.
MISC INITIATIVE JOBS
Health Services
The Initiative has its own medical bays, separate from the Transport Clinic and the hospital for the populace at large. The technology here is greatly advanced, and most diseases are curable.
Maintenance
Come on, everyone needs a janitor.
Security
Transports being unruly? These are the physically capable people that will escort them to a cell to cool down a little. They'll be used to protect the Hold in case of emergencies, but otherwise are just there to make sure no situation gets out of control.
OUT OF INITIATIVE JOBS
Police Force
This is currently headed by Transport Roslyn Small; questions can be directed tobe_themoon/

You're welcome to put him anywhere you like with the intention of spying, although there really isn't much that he would find. They're either upfront and honest about everything from motive to operational procedure, or else so covert about it that it's impossible to find evidence of the contrary. The only things they don't generally release to the public are the really technical aspects of things, that go way over an ordinary person's head. These are shared upon request with people that think they can handle it and seek it out, though.
However, if this ever changes (and it might!), I will definitely keep you/him in mind! It would be a great way to have an IC informational leak.

So the Initiative would be open about missions and what they hoped to gain by sending people out on them? Would it also be open about who its leaders are? What about the 'time machine' they use to bring people here? Is it guarded or could some one sneak in and visit it?
Being an assassin and not keen on the idea of kidnapping people to bring them here no matter the reason, he would be using the researcher position not only to find out about future missions but also to look for targets in power on both the Initiative and United Earth sides to eliminate them with the ultimate goal of freeing the people from both.
Would it be possible, some time in the future of course because initially he would just be a good little researcher to throw off suspicion, to find a few disreputable types in either group? And if he acted to kill them would they remain dead since they are natives here?
/bombards mods in question/
SORRY!!!! I got started asking and kept thinking of new questions!

To start with, now that the DITR has been established, those characters typically explain everything about a mission to the Transports before it happens. (It was always sort of handwaved before that that characters could find out about them if they asked — but never outright ICly explained because we didn't have time to play an NPC to do it.) So that part is definitely not a secret.
The Initiative is actually more of a council, there is no single leader, and yes they would be open about that if asked.
The Transporter is also very much not a secret, and they've even had Transports (such as Tony Stark) assist in fixing it before. It isn't guarded beyond personnel basically just being in the same room as it, and anyone is welcome to stop by. Expect to be eyed a bit to make sure you're not going to attack it, though.
Those in the UE in power are also not difficult to learn about (all power defaults ultimately to the President of the UE though, which has been revealed on-network quite a while ago to be an AI, which is not known by the UE at large), but getting to them would be difficult to the point of being impossible at this point.
Those with authority in the UE are basically entirely disreputable by anyone's standards in Exsilium (their thinking is very much in line with Orwell's 1984, for reference), but again, impossible to get to. And there cannot currently be found any disreputable people among the Initiative, which, again, is either because there aren't any, or because they're very good at hiding them. In both groups, however, they would stay dead.
