Available Jobs
This section is currently defunct until the world situation stabilizes. There is no Initaitive to work for in the same way; characters are encouraged to find employment as they will and handwave earnings as appropriate to the current setting. This page is for anyone who would like to better envision how their character spends their days! The Initiative pays well for work done for them, on top of the payment Transports already receive for a living wage. The more complex the job, the more it will pay. Characters will be paid monthly, and exact amounts can be assumed and handwaved.
To get your character a job, just comment to this entry in the appropriate place for it. There's no need to wait for mod permission. We may occasionally notify players if any upcoming plot would involve their career of choice, but otherwise all necessary information can be found on this page. Or here, in case of historical research jobs. If you have any further job-related questions, they may be asked here.
INITIATIVE SCIENTIST/RESEARCHER
Science Stuff
This is the most open, broadly defined job. Basically, if your character is science-minded, they can find a job here.
Researching timelines for missions
This includes looking into accurate clothing for the holodevices, researching historical events, languages, customs, etc, as well as pinpointing which events need to be changed to best benefit the present day. These characters will work very closely with Initiative NPCs already familiar with the process.
Mechanical upkeep of machines/networks
This includes development of new technologies, along with programmers and most engineers.
INITIATIVE ADMINISTRATION/RECORD KEEPING
Historian
Exactly what it sounds like, these characters scour the libraries for non-transcribed events to copy into the databases, as well as compare contrasting historical reports to determine the most likely truth, etc. It’s the findings of these people that the Initiative bases their missions on.
Mission Transcriptions/Record of results
These are the people that look over historical records after a mission has been completed, and see what changed. Historical records do change upon completion of a mission, and the only people who remember the way it used to be are those who were along on the mission.
INITIATIVE/TRANSPORT RELATIONS
Greeting new arrivals
What it says on the tin. Prior to the first of the month, people working in this function will set up the Hold and Courtyard in preparation for the Transport arrivals. They’re also charged with greeting new Transports, distributing tablets, issuing maps, answering questions, and generally being the friendly, informed face new Transports first encounter in Exsilium.
Relaying information
This is anything from information about an upcoming mission, to crisis reporting, to alerting Transports to upcoming changes. Basically, any information that the Initiative needs to get out to the Transports will come through these people.
MISC INITIATIVE JOBS
Health Services
The Initiative has its own medical bays, separate from the Transport Clinic and the hospital for the populace at large. The technology here is greatly advanced, and most diseases are curable.
Maintenance
Come on, everyone needs a janitor.
Security
Transports being unruly? These are the physically capable people that will escort them to a cell to cool down a little. They'll be used to protect the Hold in case of emergencies, but otherwise are just there to make sure no situation gets out of control.
OUT OF INITIATIVE JOBS

This is currently headed by Transport Roslyn Small; questions can be directed tobe_themoon/

Initiative Scientist/Researcher

Canon: Breaking Bad
Anything else: He's a chemist, and because his first weapon granted him accelerated scientific learning, he's now absurdly good at his job. He can synthesize just about any substance as long as he's got the necessary ingredients. His specialties are crystallography and pharmaceutical chemistry, but he'll deliver anything the Initiative orders, which ranges from methamphetamine to poison gas to anti-verstatsi drugs. He also ends up doing a lot of maintenance on lab equipment, improving their setup as needed.

Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Anything else: Jade tends to say "it's not my specialty" about anything that isn't fonology (which is I guess like magical sound particle physics?) but that's basically bullshit. He is one of those dread multidisciplinary fictional scientists, so he'll do really well with basically every field that isn't technology (which he can work with, but he dislikes it and it tends not to come naturally with him) so he basically devotes his scientific attention to whatever is most prudent. Because it isn't his specialty, though, he likes to run his work past those who are actually qualified in whatever field it is he's working in.

Canon: Tales of Symphonia
Anything else: He was a researcher in his world that dealt with summon spirits and the climate change on his world, so he dealt with the mana flow. Mana being the source of all life on his world. He pretty much dealt with that 24/7 so that's where his expertise lie. Beyond that, he's willing and excited to learn all science things, but it will take him time to get used to. He'll probably stick to ones dealing with energy related stuff since it'll be familiar to him.

Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Anything else: Dist specializes in research and will be working with Jade Curtiss on SCIENCE STUFF which is basically anything Jade tells him to do, and only with Jade's supervision. I figured I'd mark him down here and below under Machinery.

Canon: Psycho-Pass
Anything else: Shion isn't particularly innovative in her science knowledge, but she's fairly used to working in a lab environment. Need someone to run simulations, perform analysis or synthesise something for you? She can do it. Her forte's modern medical and forensic science (circa 22nd century) and she's used to working with (but not on) machinery.

Canon: Original character
Anything else: Her primary expertise's in the magical sciences specific to her world, but she can do some highly sophisticated analysis and manipulation of magical stuff thanks to her weapon which're her tools. Considering she was basically created and raised specifically for the purposes of being good at magic, she's really good at it. Aside from that, she's most into the physical sciences, particularly physics which she's most confident in, though she'd have to brush up on the differences from her own world.

Canon: Suikoden III
Anything else: He's already kind of trained to go through and process hideously boring and large amounts of info and such and is already doing so on his own, so may as well get paid for it. He's particularly interested in finding the right point in time to stop what happened to the world they lost.

Username:
Canon: Marvel 616
Anything else: Nate has extensive time travel experience ranging from... several centuries BC to the 38th century (also the end of time but that was actually pretty boring). He also has a lot of experience finding and changing 'nexus points', points in the timeline where one action can cause the timestream to split or swing a certain way.
Basically he wants to make sure you Initiative suckers are doing this properly
Mechanical upkeep of machines/networks

Canon: Homestuck
Anything else: Sollux is a natural with computers. Working on the network and the Initiative database' upkeep is what he's best at
as opposed to making friends, which he is horrible at.He's been helping the Initiative since January-ish with this sort of thing.no subject
Username:
Canon: Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
Anything else: Shelke is a natural with computers, and can actually mentally interact with them if she ever finishes her synaptic net dive terminal. She's also pretty good at rebuilding and repairing them, and remembers everything she reads/sees about them.
She...probably also takes broken or outdated bits of machinery to repurpose for her Terminal. It's almost finished.

Canon: neon genesis evangelion
Anything else: kaji is proficent in handling computer operations and complex troubleshooting. he can assist in the implementation of customized network programs to acquire and organize data, or if the occasion required, handle security and protection duties. not to mention, he's a crack cybotager/hacker.

Canon: Tales of the Abyss
Anything else: Dist is extremely skilled with machinery- not so much computers (though he can figure those out well enough), but anything with moving parts is right up his alley. He would be eager to help keep machines tuned and things of that nature. Don't ask him to program a computer for you, but he can build and repair lots of different things.
