That would be fine! And researching for timelines can be either technical or oldschool, in the library (although they would give him a crash course on researching via computer, if he wanted it).
You're welcome to put him anywhere you like with the intention of spying, although there really isn't much that he would find. They're either upfront and honest about everything from motive to operational procedure, or else so covert about it that it's impossible to find evidence of the contrary. The only things they don't generally release to the public are the really technical aspects of things, that go way over an ordinary person's head. These are shared upon request with people that think they can handle it and seek it out, though.
However, if this ever changes (and it might!), I will definitely keep you/him in mind! It would be a great way to have an IC informational leak.
