You are out in the old west. Your mission? Get the Golden Spike back to its rightful place in the Stanford Museum after it was hot-finger lifted away by truly conniving con-men with no hesitation in killing to get what they want.

It's a very narrow (and fictitious) timeline of events, where Zelos and Seles needing to find the con-men, retrieve the spike, and get it back in its case before security notices it being gone at all. This is in the late 1800's, and is meant to prevent a noted loss of the original spike not well publicized until after Leland Stanford's death.

If they succeed, the spike is returned to display, where it is later symbolically used in peace events some several hundred years later, when tying together two lines of formerly divided countries and ideals.

If unsuccessful, this does not happen; the Golden Spike is listed as an unfortunate loss in history.
