Be kind to, and respect, your fellow players and moderators. We are all in this to have fun. Kindness and respect are one of our most important necessities in role-play, so please adhere to them. Remember, in character ≠ out of character. Please do not blur those lines or overstep them.

ｔｗｏ | proper spelling & grammar

Role-play is as much fun as it is a writing exercise. Please make an effort to proof-read your posts and tags, as well as ensure that you are using correct spelling and grammar to your highest capability.

ｔｈｒｅｅ | stay in character

As always, we request that you stay in character while you are playing your characters here at Exsilium. Do not be afraid to request help from mods or other players if you think your characterization is suffering, but please respect your other players, as well as your character, by doing your best to maintain their canon personality and behavior.

ｆｏｕｒ | god-moding & info-moding

Please remember to respect other players and keep your own characters' intentions and power within check. Please also be sure that those who you are playing with are comfortable with the situations their characters are in, and that you are not making decisions and choices for other characters who are not your own. On that note, please also be sure your characters are not informed beyond their in-game knowledge of other characters and players, be it their intentions, secrets, or lives. Just don't info-mod.

ｆｉｖｅ | age requirement & tos compliance

All players must be over the age of fifteen and must adhere to Dreamwidth's Terms of Service.

ｓｉｘ | sexually explicit &or violent material

Please remember to put all sexually explicit and/or violent subject matter under a cut, and lock those entries so that they are only viewable by the members of the communities. You must put a warning on an entry or log that is sexually explicit or violent.

Addendum 08/28/2013: Explicit content (sexual and violent) that would be rated above PG-13 should be contained to a locked entry in the log community, and will not longer be allowed in the main community. Sexually explicit and graphically violent content involving characters age 14 and below will not be permitted to be written in either community; handwaving and assuming is fine.

ｓｅｖｅｎ | character limit

Players will be initially limited to a total of 4 characters within game. If that player can demonstrate an ability to play more characters and has successfully passed 2 activity checks with their current characters, they may be allowed to apply for another character with moderator permission. If a player can provide proof of activity for recently applied-for characters in the case of their not being able to provide Activity Check examples, and that player is in good standing, they may be allowed to apply for an additional character on a case-by-case basis.

ｅｉｇｈｔ | tagging entries

Posts made by or tagged to by your character must be tagged with your character's respective tag (character name (canon)). Tagging your posts is necessary in both exsilium and exsiliumlogs.

ｎｉｎｅ | activity requirements

It is a must that your characters remain active within the game. Characters are required to provide two examples of activity per month. Examples of activity may be a post in the main community, a post in the log community, a reply to a post in the log community, or a comment thread in the main community with at least 7 of the comments being from your character. These may be combined or substituted in any way. Activity requirements will be further outlined in each activity check post.

ｔｅｎ | activity checks

There will be an activity check held by a moderator at the end of every month. At the end of that month, a moderator will review activity within the communities and provide a list of characters that have not met activity requirements. Those characters will be given the option of making further posts to remain in the game, or will be automatically dropped from the game following the activity check. Characters who are dropped in this way must wait a month before reapplying. The rules and requirements of these activity checks will be outlined in more explicit detail in each activity check post.

ｅｌｅｖｅｎ | formal warnings

Exsilium works with a 3 strikes system, and when you are given a strike, a moderator will let you know why and for what reason. If any player is found to be in violation of the rules of the game, they will be formally warned. Once a player has received a total of 3 formal warnings while within the game, that player will be banned and removed from the game, and no longer allowed to apply for characters or play their characters here. Players will be aware when they are warned, and will be allowed to inquire about their warnings at any time.

ｔｗｅｌｖｅ | fourth-wall breaking

Please only break the fourth wall in situations where the player behind the character has given express permission. Breaking the fourth wall with characters can be frustrating, both for the character and for the player, and can have an adverse effect on their enjoyment in game. Please respect other players by adhering to this rule. Exceptions to this rule are for characters who break the fourth wall in their canon, and that will be considered if necessary.

ｔｈｉｒｔｅｅｎ | playing two characters from the same canon

The same player is permitted to play two characters from the same canon, as long as those characters do not have significant interactions with each other in their canon. The two characters, if being played by the same player, must not have a need to thread with each other. If there is very slight interaction between them in their canon but there is a legitimate reason in game that they would never interact, it may also be permissible.

ｆｏｕｒｔｅｅｎ | applying for characters from recently released canons

Recently released canons require a minimum wait period of 6 weeks before they may be applied from, unless otherwise noted below. The following stipulations also apply to canon updates, and sequels to existing canons (video games, movies, or otherwise).

movies: Due to budding interest in applying for characters from recently released films, we ask that players wait a minimum of 6 weeks before applying for a character from a recently released canon. Players are permitted to reserve a character from a recently released canon no earlier than 3 weeks before the wait time is up--essentially, if the 6 week wait period would be over by the time that applications open, you are permitted to submit a reservation for that character for the reservation period prior!

television series: We ask that players wait to apply for characters from ongoing, new television series' ("new" being in its first season) until half of the season has aired. Players may reserve characters from recent, new television series' prior to an application cycle if half of the season will have aired by the time that applications open! If you would like to play a character from an ongoing television series that is in a much later season, you may apply for a character from the most recent season only if half of that season has aired by the time you are applying.

webcomics and comics: Webcomics and comics that have been recently released may be applied from after a minimum of 6 weeks has passed since their release date.

video games: Newly released video games will also have a wait period of a minimum of 6 weeks before they may be applied from.
