Rice it is! They'll be aiding with preservation of the rice crops through a famine, first, and then later on have to defend against the early stage of an insect infestation. If they can help ensure enough water gets to the rice paddies, and prevent the insects from their first major onslaught which would otherwise have destroyed 60% of that year's crop, starting a downward spiral the region would never recover from, they will have been helping in the long run.

Bugs aren't very awesome looking, I realize, but if you guys want to figure out where the water may be kept back too, or anything else possibly related, you're welcome to!
